  3. 1. What 5S is? What 5S is? 5S is the foundation of Kaizen ( improvement ) Sort out Separate needed from unneeded things and discarded the unneeded Set in Order Arrange items that are needed in a neat and easy-to-use manner and in sequence of using or consuming them

  4. 1. What 5S is? Shine Shine means not only sweeping up the work area, but also inspection of something abnormal at the work area. Standardizing The overall cleanliness and order that result from disciplined practice of the first three Ss. It means also “Don’t litter the work area!” Sustain Sustain the first four Ss. Sometimes referred to as “discipline”.

On a rainy day, walk on a plastic sheet and fall

  7. 4. Shine (“Seiso” in Japanese ) Clean plastic Plastic packaging contents are visible Efficient temperature control of plastic packaging contents Plastics are properly managed

  8. 5. Standardizing (“Seiketsu” in Japanese ) Clean the contents of plastic without bacteria Make sure the plastic does not get dirty Seal the plastic package for foods, etc.

  9. 6. Sustain (“Sitsuke” in Japanese ) Manage 5S by discipline Educate people Make a circle team Set a goal Do circle activities Announce results Establish an award system

  10. 7. Conclusion Appropriate use of plastics by 5S and reduction of plastics waste 5S is adopted by many Japanese companies. The Toyota production system started from 5S. Currently, 5S is adopted by overseas companies
