DBQ Review • Objectives: • Demonstrate your understanding of how to write a DBQ • Review a time period that may appear as the DBQ for this year • Demonstrate your understanding of how the DBQ is graded • Agenda • Pick a DBQ from the Next Slide • Find the documents and outside information on the AP central website (but do not read the essays)and take 20 minutes and plan your essay (make a thorough outline and include the outside information that is presented on AP central) • Use this information and take 45mins to write your DBQ • Once finished, exchange your essay with someone who wrote on a different question • Read through the scoring commentary and the essay 9 example and grade their essay (if you do not finish it is homework)

  2. DBQ Choices • 2006 Discuss the changing ideals of American womanhood between the American Revolution (1770’s) and the outbreak of the Civil War. What factors fostered the emergence of a “republican motherhood” and the “cult of domesticity”? Assess the extent to which these ideals influenced the lives of women during this period. In your answer be sure to consider issues of race and class. • 2006b Analyze developments from 1941–1949 that increased suspicion and tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. • 2005bIn the early nineteenth century, Americans sought to resolve their political disputes through compromise, yet by 1860 this no longer seemed possible. Analyze the reasons for this change. Use the documents and your knowledge of the years 1820–1860 in constructing your response. • 2005 To what extent did the American Revolution fundamentally change American society? In your answer be sure to address the political, social and economic effects of the Revolution in the period from 1775 to 1800.
