New Caledonian influenza particular background • French territorylocated in the Pacific, 230 000 inhabitants • Regularly confronted with the south hemisphere seasonal influenza epidemic (june-august) • NC regularly confronted with the north hemisphere seasonal influenza epidemic (december-february) • Many exchanges with Autralia and NZ Institut Pasteur de Nouvelle-Calédonie

  3. Health authorities strategie and evolution of the (H1N1) pandemia: • - Absenteeism workplace  (mother stay home to look after childs) • Stop school closure • Oseltamivir prescription: • . GP • . Risk factors, severe cases • First school closure • ICU cases May June July August - Airport screening (thermal camera) - Symptomatic travellers : isolation / laboratory investigation - Exposed travellers : self health monitoring and illness reporting • 13 July : • First community case in Noumea • isolation home/hotel + oseltamivir • opening Influenza treatment centre (2) • End of airport screening • 26 June : • First positive case (NZ traveller) • isolation + oseltamivir • prophylaxis for contact • cruise ship sreening ! Data on pandemic (H1N1) 2009 as at 14 August 720 Samples tested from May 2009 (CDC’s RT-PCR) : • 311 cases (H1N1) pandemic confirmed : • 45 imported : 28 Australia, 14 NZ, 1 Philippines, 1 Fidji, 1 de French Polynesia • 10 cases related to imported (CLCI) • 250 community cases (CL) • 409 negatives with 24 A seasonnal flu (H3N2/H1N1) Institut Pasteur de Nouvelle-Calédonie
