  4. Two Kinds of Free Kicks Direct Free Kick Current Knowledge A goal may be scored against the opponents on first touch of the ball Indirect Free Kick A goal can NOT be scored until ball is touched by any other player

  5. Free Kick RestartBall-In-Play vs. Goal Scored • Ball is “in play” when: • Kicked and moves • Leaves penalty area (if appropriate) • Goal can be scored when: • Ball is “in play” • Ball is touched by 2nd player on IFK • Ball is kicked into opponents goal Current Knowledge

  6. Direct Free Kicks Current Knowledge • Taken at Spot of Foul • Any of the 9 DFK fouls • Charging a player who has both feet off the ground • Charging a goalkeeper in the Penalty Area

  7. Indirect Free Kicks Current Knowledge Taken at Spot of Infraction • Offside • “Double Touch” after restart • Any of the 4 listed IFK fouls • Any of the 4 Goalkeeper IFK fouls • Play is stopped for misconduct of a player • Spitting at a teammate or game official

  8. Indirect Free Kicks • Taken at Location of Ball • Misconduct by person in team and coaching area • Any team member entering or leaving field without permission of an official • Temporary suspension of play (injury) …. One team in “clear” possession

  9. Encroachment Current Knowledge 10 yards in all directions Failure to respect the required distance is a cautionable offense

  10. “Quick” Free Kick Current Knowledge • Do not interfere unless: • Kicking team insists on 10 yards • Encroachment is severe • “Quick” restart is not taken • Kicker restarting prior to the opponents retiring is at risk of losing possession • Hand signal if IFK

  12. Penalty Kick A penalty kick is awarded if the defending team commits any of the DFK fouls within their own penalty area Current Knowledge

Penalty Kick Requirements Current Knowledge • Requirements that must be met: • Ball stationary, on penalty mark • Kicker and goalkeeper are identified and properly positioned • All others are at least ten yards from the ball, on the field, outside penalty area and behind penalty mark • Signal must be given by referee

Penalty Kick Requirements Current Knowledge • Requirements (cont.) • Ball must be kicked and moved forward • Kicker cannot play ball a second time until someone else has touched it • Goalkeeper may not leave goal line • Stutter step or faking by kicker is not allowed • Kicker may not run from outside the penalty area

  17. Kicks From The Mark(Tiebreaker) • All players on team are eligible to take kick .... unless previously disqualified • No “reduce to equate” players if other team is playing short
