  6. IPTV-Concerns of Broadcaster's & Content providers • Content security: Ensured on IPTV platform as below • Signals are distributed over private network (telephone copper cable). • The signal is available only within the city or telephone exchange area. • The service is enabled only to the customer subscribing for the service. • Since this is a wired technology, it doesn't suffer from rogue signals like terrestrial and satellite transmission does. • Only valid and authenticated customers can request channels. • This is a point-point connection. At any given point of time only one channel is enabled on that connection. For enabling a separate request is sent. Hence, no one can receive more than one signal at any given time. Moreover, for each new box, a new broadband connection is be required. Remote port disable possible, if required. • Periodic Over-lay of box identification is done by default. • The port and the boxes are paired. • Channels are encrypted before being multicast. • DRM (Digital rights management) implemented as a standard on the network • Further all features of CAS (Conditional Access System) can be implemented on IPTV platform for additional security Wicenet Ghana Ltd

  7. IPTV & Internet TV : A comparison • IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is many a times misunderstood as • Internet TV. • It is a digital transmission of broadcast channels in multicast mode. • Though IPTV is delivered through the broadband (largely on ADSL) • infrastructure it does not use Internet (www). • It uses is a local MAN network and cannot be accessed unless subscribed • for the service and outside the exchange coverage area. • The services are delivered to the TV through a set top box (STB) and not PC. • “Internet TV” : Live broadcast of video signals streamed through the Internet. • (eg. You tube videos, online news clips) • Content can be accessed any where in the world. • The delivery of the stream depends on the quality of the Internet connection • and the bandwidth available to the end user. • Internet uses “Best Effort Delivery” method, many a times the signal is • not in real time. It is buffered before it is being played. • Internet TV can be viewed on the PC using any of the multimedia players. Wicenet Ghana Ltd
