Group discussion on study topics plays a major role in schools because discussing different topics with friends and classmates helps them learning more actively. In a group discussion, students share their thoughts and ideas about a particular topic. By doing this, they all learn something new from others. Teachers should introduce new different methods of learning among students, to make their learning process more active.

  2. INTRODUCTION The combination of two different words, i.e., group and discussion, are formed as group discussion. Here, 'group' means a number of people put together or gathered together considered as a team/unit. And 'discussion' refers to examine any particular topic or some subject thoroughly to reach a conclusion. Together, it is called Group discussion, which means exchanging ideas by participating as a group on a specific topic or subject. It is totally based on expressing their ideas and sharing them with a group. Many best international schools are encouraging group discussion among students.

Teachers should introduce new different methods of learning among students, to make their learning process more active. Each different methods of learning have their pros and cons. Hence, if many students discuss a topic that has already taught by the teacher, it will help them to come across the learning acquired by different methods of learning.

  4. Increases students’ interests and engagement  The mixture of Discourses and discussions can really facilitate the students to stay focus. When they express ideas and answers, they get more different perspectives on the subject or topic. The perfect answers can get the students to think profoundly and make connections to those answers.

  5. Promotes Preparation The best international schools are making group discussions as a part of the timetable to make it more effective. It is because, when the teacher engages students in a classroom discussion regularly, then students are more likely to come to class with full preparation.

  6. Develops Students’ Speaking Skills Many students are afraid to talk in public and in groups. To get rid of it the school is the best place for them. Teachers prepare students to speak confidently in front of their class members and group discussion gives them opportunities to speak up. When the teacher promotes group discussion in students, it will help the students to face real-world settings.

  7. Creates the New Classroom Environment Most of the students get boring during class lectures, so group discussion will help to stay focus and learn. It creates a new classroom environment and helps the students to be more attentive during the lectures and discussion time.

  8. Build confidence in Students Group discussion helps the students to build confidence in them. When they discuss what they have been studied with others, it helps them eliminate these ambiguities about what they have learned. Listening to supporting ideas helps the students to rectify their ideas and develop confidence in them. That’s why many international schools consider group discussion as a mandatory one.

  9. Provide the Feedback As a teacher, you should give them feedback about the subject, topic, and student’s involvement. In case if the students couldn’t find the correct answer, then the teacher should help them by explaining it. It helps the students to participate actively in the group discussion and understand the information clearly.
