  2. Unit Summary • Students will collaboratively select a dance and research its history and culture, learn the dance, present the dance and the history and teach the dance to other students.

  3. Curriculum-Framing Questions • Essential Question: How does culture influence life? • Unit Question: How does culture influence dance? • Content Questions: What are some dances from different cultures? Where there any costumes? What instrument where used? Do they dance alone or with partners?

  4. Dance Project This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by: • Developing, implementing and communicating new ideas to others • Being open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives • Articulating thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively through speaking and writing • Demonstrating originality and inventiveness in work

  5. Gauging Student Needs Assessment • Purpose of the Assessment • To gather information about what students already know and what they have learned about their dance. • What I want to learn from my students? • I want to find out what they already know about the Unit Questions and what they know about setting the dance • How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? • I ask students to find relationships and draw conclusions about their dance. • How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? • If students have misconceptions about how to set up their dance, I can provide feedback. If students have different levels of understanding about the importance of history and culture, I can provide various resources. We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge. • What feedback or additional ideas I’d like? • I would like help on my assessment. I think I need to elicit more higher-order thinking, but I’m not sure how.

  6. My Goals for the Course • Students should complete the project • Collaborate with their partner • Learn how to research using technology. • Demonstrate what they have learned by doing this project. • Teach their dance and history of their dance.

  7. Goals for My Students • To learn how to research a new dance • To collaborate with their partner • Learn the steps of their dance. • Explain the history of their dance.

  8. Request for Feedback • Places I could find a classroom in a different climate for my students to work with • Ideas for helping students take more responsibility for their own learning
