  3. Main features and Potential of TD-SCDMA • Main features: • TDD Duplex; supporting unpaired frequency , supporting asymmetric data services; same carrier frequency, suitable for smart antenna; • FDMA+TDMA+CDMA Simple and flexible Radio Resource Management; • Low Chip Rate; small resource unit, soft radio; • Short Code CDMA; joint detection, defending MAI and ISI; • Self-Contained Time Slot Structure; channel estimate and demodulation in a single time slot, compatible technology enhancement; • Potential: • adapt to the development of future technology; accommodate different advanced technology; GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

  4. Optimizing and Improvement • Optimizing and improvement: • Joint Detection technology (JD): Node B side processing;UE side processing; • Adaptive multiple antenna technology; Adaptive Array;MIMO; • Special Time Slot signal processing: cell search;random access and synchronization ; • High Speed Packet Access ; HSDPA;HSUPA; • Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Services; Simulcast Combing in the Same Timeslot • Radio Resource Management GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

  5. Joint Detection • JD implementation and improvement: • Interference sources and system features; MAI and ISI,short code CDMA,self-contained time slot structure; • JD in Node B side; combining with smart antenna;processing different interference; • JD in UE side; obtain the channel assignment information;active detecting;simplified algorithms ; • Advanced JD : • Intra-cell and Inter-cell interference ; improving the cell-edge performance; • Combining the JD and FEC Iterative JD; combining JD GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

  6. Multiple Antenna (1) • The smart antenna technology • Expanding the concept of smart antenna, only focusing on two key points: one is the ‘adaptive’ ,another is the ‘multiple antenna’; • Adaptive multiple antenna technology including: Diversity Antenna: transmit diversity and receive diversity; Beam Forming: adaptive array antenna, or smart antenna; Space Multiplexing: Multi-Input and Multi-Output; • Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO): • Producing several parallel channel Independent data streams are transmitted on several parallel channels so that total channel capacity is increased. e.g.: 4 times data rate can be achieved by 4Tx-4Rx antenna GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

  7. Multiple Antenna (2) • MIMO • Transmitting independent data in different antenna • Providing space multiplex gain to increase capacity. • Adding extra parallel channels • Adapting the radio environment of rich scatters (in doors) • Larger antenna space • Adaptive array • Transmitting the same data in different antenna; • Providing directional beam, mitigating the MAI • Improving the reliability of the channel. • Adapting the radio environment of lack scatters (out doors) • Smaller antenna space GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

  8. High Speed Packet Access • HSDPA • Basic concept of HSDPA Features of Packet Data:non-sensitive to delay, sensitive to error;burst transmission ,pursuing the throughput of system; Packet Data Access :by regulating the rate of data to adapt the change of channel condition; • Key techniques of HSDPA Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC); Hybrid ARQ; Fast scheduling algorithm; • Enhance uplink technique • Similar to HSDPA , the key techniques including: AMC、HARQ and Fast scheduling algorithm ;also be called as HSUPA; GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications
