  1. Biblical Foundations for Justice

  2. Did you know? Up to 27,000 children die every day due to poverty and preventable disease. More than one third of the world’s children are malnourished. 100 million children live on the streets. 10 million children work in the sex trade world-wide (modern form of child slavery) Which of the above shocks you the most? Why? How can we respond to these atrocities?

  3. Martin Luther King Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963

  4. Deuteronomy 15:11 Give generously to the needy and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and everything you put your hand to. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward the poor and needy in your land.”

  5. Amos 5: 14-15 Seek good, not evil, that you might live. Then the Lord God almighty will be with you, just as you say He is. Hate evil, love good, maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

  6. James 5:4-6 “Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men who were not opposing you.” James 5:4-6

  7. Matthew 25:35 “I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty a and you gave me a drink; I was stranger and you received me… Whenever you do this for one of the least important brothers, you do it for me.” - Jesus

  8. Define Social Justice: Social justice is what faces you in the morning. It is awakening in a house with adequate water supply, cooking facilities and sanitation. It is the ability to nourish your children and send them to school where their education not only equips them for employment but reinforces their knowledge and understanding of their cultural inheritance. It is the prospect of genuine employment and good health: a life of choices and opportunity, free from discrimination. Mick Dodson, Annual Report of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait IslanderSocial Justice Commissioner, 1993 For further information: Ten FAQs A Biblical Response to Social Justice
