  1. What is bird flu or Avian Influenza? Egiyok News

  2. Is it safe to eat chicken and eggs? In simple words, it is a contagious disease that is generally caused by Influenza type A viruses. This generally affects the poultry birds such as chicken, turkey, and ducks. The impact of this virus may vary as it has many strains, where some of which are mild which can result in decreased egg production, and on the other hand, some strains are very lethal that can cause even the mortality of birds. According to the World Health Organization website, it is absolutely safe to eat properly cooked chicken or eggs as the virus is sensitive to heat. Food, when prepared at high temperature (70°C), kills the virus. According to WHO, there is no evidence that the virus can spread to humans from properly cooked food. Moreover, it is safe to eat poultry products because no infected bird is sold in the market and proper inspection of birds and eggs is done before they go for sale. Earlier too bird flu have been spread and it was controlled by the government and veterinary departments. The current situation is expected to get normal soon.
