  2. Introduction • Proper classroom management emphasizes what the instructor expects from the students in terms of behavior and learning rather than focusing on problematic behavior and discipline problems (Kratochwill, n.d.).

  3. Objectives Given a presentation, handout, and examples, a new instructor should be able to: • Design a lesson and supportive materials that will engage the students with no supervision • Identify different learning styles and adjust their lessons to meet the different styles with no supervision and minimal disruption to the learning environment • Create clear expectations and rules for their classroom to create a positive learning environment with no supervision • Identify a negative situation in the classroom and decide what is the best approach to handle the situation with no supervision and minimal disruption to the learning environment • Apply techniques discussed in a role-play exercise involving a disruptive student with no guidance

  4. Designing a Lesson • Clearly state the objectives of the lesson • Lesson should address all learning styles • Look at the lesson as an opportunity to get students thinking outside the box • Have students actively participate in the lesson • Actively deliver the lesson

  5. Positive Learning Environment • Clearly state the rules and expectations of the class • Clearly state the consequences for not following the rules • Consistently follow through with consequences • Create a supportive classroom environment

  7. Defuse a Negative Situation • Use silent queues to refocus attention • Stand near student causing disruption • Whisper to student causing disruption • Situation continues – quietly ask student to step out of class to further discuss problem

  8. Role Play • 2 Scenarios • Negative Situation • Disruption in classroom where removal is warranted

  9. Assessments • Write a lesson plan for the material given • Write a response to the scenario given • Complete the survey for the training session
