  5. Terminology • Lumens- measurement of brightness. The higher the number the brighter the projector • Resolution- the amount of pixels (measured in width & height) that make up an image • 4:3- almost square image • 16:9- widescreen

  6. Terminology • VGA- connector to connect to a computer (also known as 15-pin) • RGBHV- higher quality connector/cable, better for long runs. 5 cables- red, green, blue, horizental, vertical • DA- distribution amplifier. Used to split the signal to mulitiple screens

  7. Terminology • Switcher- Allows you to switch from one input to another • Seamless- does not freeze or go black between images. Very important for switching with video and camera • I-mag- (image magnification) capturing the presenter with a camera and putting it up on the screen

  8. Terminology • Tripod- pop-up screen. Does not come larger than 8’ • Fastfold- a truss built screen that includes a drape surround • LCD- Liquid Crystal Display- good for computer, smaller screens, not as bright • DLP- Digital Light Processor- excellent for video, better for big screens, very bright

  9. Terminology • Mixer- controls several audio inputs and outputs • Amplifier- powers the speakers • Equalizer- adjusts the frequencies of the audio, helps to eliminate feedback

  12. Speaker Requirements • What do they require? • Powerpoint? Mac or PC? Computer Audio? • Comfort monitor? Teleprompter? • Video playback? Which format- computer, DVD, DV-Cam, Beta, VHS • Microphone- podium, wireless, handheld, lavalier/lapel

  13. Speaker requirements • Talent • Always ask for their technical rider • Should be researched and budgeted before signing talent • Most professional entertainers have riders including bands, magicians, comics, DJs, high profile keynote speakers

  14. Sample DJ rider IMPORTANT! 1. The DJ booth should be firmly placed on a riser, as to give the public a proper view of the DJ. Booth or desk should have enough space to provide for VJ and carry VJ equipment (laptop) 2. The DJ should be sufficiently lighted, as well as all equipment and records. 3. The DJ booth should only be accessible to the DJ, VJ and organisation. 4. All equipment should be levelled. 5. The DJ booth should contain an extra table on hip-height for record bags with enough space for up to 4 record bags 6. The DJ booth and desk should be absolutely shock-free, preferably by using 2 x FREEFLOATERS for the turntables and sufficient space between public and DJ booth. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AUDIO, to be provided by promoter: 1. 2 x Technics SL 1200 or SL 1210 turntables with Stanton 680 or needles and cartridges of similar quality. 2. 2 x PIONEER CDJ 1000 MK3 professional cd players 3. High quality mixer: Pioneer DJM 800 or a more recent version. 4. 2 x freefloaters for the Technics turntables 5. 2 x powerful monitor loudspeakers, to be operated through the mixing desk. 6. Te height between placed turntables and the riser floor should be around 1 metre. 7. Monitors should – if applicable – be placed on standards and there should be enough space for up to 2 DJs to move between DJ desk, monitors and records table. 8. A (preferably wireless) MIKE for use by a possible MC. !! Please note that it is forbidden to record the DJ set without our explicit consent! TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS VIDEO, to be provided by promoter: - projector, minimum 3000 lumen; projector out: RCA, S-Video or VGA (we'll provide adaptor to connect to apple mac dvi) - projection screen(s), preferably 4:3 or 16:9 dimensions - visuals to be controlled from DJ / VJ desk or booth; not from lighting booth! If extension chords are necessary please let us know - visual check before gig to try out equipment and finetuning - lighting / video technician available for support at VJ-check or change-over

Sample Keynote rider Audio Visual: • One (1) lavaliere microphone (cordless, remote) • Extra-large screen – as large as the room can hold o Preferred placement of screen is left of stage/platform • LCD projector for Multi-Media presentation o With audio and video plug-ins o Video Monitor is appreciated if possible NOTE: Cheryl’s presentation is in Keynote software, a MAC program - she brings it on a thumb drive – she also brings her own MAC notebook and a conversion cord Staging: • Raised stage/platform without podium • Small round table on the left side of the stage/platform o Needs access to electrical power, the LCD projector and the sound system Room Set-up • Chevron seating is preferred with no middle aisle where possible

  18. Audience Environment • They are the most important part of an event • Know your audience! • Demographics • Audio- what type of music is best suited • Visuals- multi-screen for multi-language, large screens for photo details (Doctors) • Stage

  19. Audience Environment • What is the purpose of the event? • Training- simple set-up • Sales pitch- impressive look, branded • Internal Corporate event- depends on the message • Press conference- branded, look at the event through the eyes of a camera
