WHAT IS A LETTER OF APPLICATION? • A letter of application INTRODUCES you to a prospective employer and REQUESTS an interview.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A LETTER OF APPLICATION • Should be an original not a photocopy, • The tone should appeal to the reader, • Its content should be concise and informative
GUIDELINES IN COMPOSING A LETTER OF APPLICATION • Address the letter to a person – not to a department/position. • Explain in the first paragraph the reason for the letter, stating specifically the position in which you are interested.
GUIDELINES IN COMPOSING A LETTER OF APPLICATION • Briefly indicate why you believe you are qualified for the position • Indicate that a resume is enclosed

RESUME • A resume is a CONCISE, WELL-ORGANIZED presentation of your qualifications for a job. • Concise = Brief but lots of information. • Well-organized = Nicely presented.
RESUME (CONT.) • Should make a positive impression on the reader. • List the most important information first.
RESUME (CONT.) • There is no standard resume form – a prospective employer may consider your resume to be an example of your ability to organize information.

PERSONAL INFORMATION • Your name, address, phone no., e-mail address. • You may OR may not provide information such as age, date of birth, marital status or other pertinent information which may jeopardize your chances (weight, height, race, religion, etc). • No one should be discriminated based on the above characteristics.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE • List the name and address of your high school and the graduation date or anticipated date. • List the courses you completed that prepared you for the job market.
WORK EXPERIENCE • List in chronological order beginning with the most recent one. • For each job include the name and address of the organization, your job title, a brief description of the tasks performed, and the beginning and ending dates of your employment. • You may include any part-time positions as well as any volunteer work your performed.
OTHERS • You may include special skills such as keyboarding or good command in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power-point, Etc. • School Activities such as President of Red Crescent Society, Member of Student Council, etc. • Hobbies – You need to decide.
REFERENCES • References are persons who know your academic ability and/or work skills and habits and are willing to recommend you to prospective employers. • Get permission before using a person as a reference.
REFERENCES (CONT.) • Be sure to include a complete name, job title, address, and telephone number for each one. • Two to three references are considered sufficient.
CAUTION • Your resume is absolutely YOURS. • It will reflect your personality and ability. • It should be able to promote yourself.
CAUTION (C0NT.) • Be as creative as possible. • One that is able to attract your prospective employer’s attention, get a better chance to be called for an interview.
