  4. 1984 – The Apple Lisa

  5. 1990 Hubble Space Telescope is launched!

  6. When Hubble was deployed into space it was managed by computers built with 1970’s technology. In 1993 a 386 co-processor was added. In 1999 everything was replaced with a 486 computer, and is still there!

  7. 1994-1995 • Netscape Browser • Windows 95 with Internet Explorer

  8. The computers we used to store data and process information here at STScI took up large portions of a computer room!

  9. Today • Today our computer rooms have much more computing power in much less space.

  10. Our Desktop and Laptop computers are about as powerful as some of the main frame systems use to be!
