  3. STAAR Dates • STAAR Math- Monday, May 13, 2019 • STAAR Reading- Tuesday, May 14, 2019

  4. scores • Math – 50% passing rate (32 questions) • Reading- 53% passing rate (34 questions) 4 hours to complete each test Let’s help them Shoot for the STARS!

  5. Performance Label • Unsatisfactory Academic Performance – below 53% - did not meet standard • Satisfactory Academic Performance (Approaches) 53%- Reading 50%- Math • Satisfactory Academic Performance (Meets) 76%- Reading 75%-Math • Advanced Academic Performance (Masters) 85%- Reading 88%-Math

  6. Parent support • How can you help at home? * Make sure that your child completes his/her homework. * Practice their multiplication facts DAILY * Have them READ to YOU at least 20-30 minutes EVERYDAY!

  7. Tools for success MATH • Reference Math Sheet- will assist them on answering questions • Grid Paper used to: create multiplication table find the quotient when dividing find fractions and patterns

  8. Tools for success READING • Students are allowed to use: • highlighters • reading trackers • Sound phones • Dictionaries (English/Spanish)

  9. Preparing for the test… • Go to bed early the night before the test and get a good night’s sleep • Eat a good breakfast on the morning of the test • Motivational speech before they leave home
