  3. What is the Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List? • Find the best age appropriate graphic novels for grades 6-12 • Encourage students to recreationally read a variety of different books • List is chosen from books published in the past 2 years

  4. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Formatting • Text Size • Artwork • Color • Panel Sizes and Shapes • Is it a good book?

  5. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Formatting • Is the art sequential? • Does the picture tell everything it needs to? • Do you see what the artist or author wants you to see?

  6. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Text Size • Can you read the text? • Is it too small? • Is it too large? Does it overwhelm the page? • Does it need to be there?

  7. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Artwork • Do the colors work for the story? • Does the art work for the story? • Does the art convey information? • Is the art sequential?

  8. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Color • Is the color used in a manner that overwhelms the reader? • Does the color represent something and if so, is it apparent? • Is the color necessary?

  9. What Makes a Good Graphic Novel? • Panel Sizes and Shapes • Does the artist use the panel layout well? • Does your eye naturally go to the next panel, or are you confused as a reader?
