  1. What Gender Can Tell The Difference Between Coke Products Better? Tessa Nelson 9th Grade Bellwood Antis High School

  2. Sense of Taste Girls & boys have same # of taste buds but girls have a higher sensitivity level Boys need an average of 10% more sourness and 20% more sweetness. The Sweetness is what I’m testing. Girls do have a better sense of taste then boys.

  3. Hypothesis Girls will be able to tell the difference between the variety of Coke products better.

  4. Summary Six Dixie cups, filled with 40 milliliters of the Coke products, and one with water The blindfolded subjects come in and drink the soda one by one, drinking the water after each. They were told what choices they could chose from. They told us their answers after each drink.

  5. Experimental Variable and Experimental Group Experimental variable genders. Experimental group Boys and Girls.

  6. Control Group water

  7. Control VariablesCoke Products To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables. • Quantity of Coke in the Dixie cups. • Expiration Date on Coke Bottle. • Same Temperature • Same Volume • Purchased on same day

  8. Control VariablesTesting Environment To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables. • Consistent room temperature. (22˚C) • Time of day. • Time of year.

  9. Control VariablesTesting Subjects To prevent certain factors from interfering with my experiment I controlled the following variables. • Ages 15-17 • None had eaten lunch yet

  10. Experimental Procedure

  11. Step 1 • Fill the Dixie Cups up to 40 milliliters with the 6 different Coke products and water.

  12. Step 2 • Label the cups, Sample A (my control group), Sample B, and so forth.

  13. Step 3 • Blind fold the subjects in the school’s hall.

  14. Step 4 • They will then be told their choices.

  15. Step 5 • Bring the subjects in one at a time, in the pattern of Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl.

  16. Step 6 • Set the students in the same seat when they come in.

  17. Step 7 • The different samples will then be placed in front of them.

  18. Step 8 • Have them drink the samples one at a time.

  19. Step 9 • After each sample, have them drink 40 milliliters of water.

  20. Step 10 • After each sample, record their guesses.

  21. Step 11 • When the subjects exit the room, monitor them to make sure they do not communicate.

  22. Step 12 • Calculate the average percentage correct for the male and female’s answers.

  29. Conclusion My data does not support my hypothesis. Therefore I reject my hypothesis; Girls can not tell the difference between coke products better than boys.

  30. If I were to do this again.. More Brands of soda other than Coke Temperature More people More of an age difference instead of narrowed down to teenagers. Other drinking products.
