  4. Colegiul naţional “Garabet Ibrăileanu“Iaşi,Romania • Our school is situated in Iasi, in the East of Romania, in the historical region Moldova which is considered to be the poorest region in the EU. Our students are aged between 7-19 years old. They study in our school: the primary cycle, the secondary cycle and the high school cycle. • Our students are from Iasi but a large part of them is represented by students who come from rural localities. These students rent a flat in the city or they commute every day.As regards the economic aspects in our region, our students come from poor families with emigrant parents gone to Spain, Italy, the U.K. in order to work there. Because of this, they have limited possibilities of being in relationship with students of their age from other countries. There is a lack of access to audio-visual means and few ways of meeting directly. • Despite these material problems, our students are well-prepared, responsive and enthusiastic regarding all the possibilities of collaboration with other students of their age, no matter the topics. As a coordinator school, the teachers and students involved in this project will participate actively both in the process of creating the project and in all the activities taking place after the approval of it. Romanian people are very friendly and our region is very rich in legends, songs, folklore, traditions ,so this project is a great opportunity for these to be compared and well known by other nations from Europe.

  5. 1 Junior High School of Pyrgos, Greece • Our school is a General Secondary School in Pyrgos, the capital of the county Helia which includes Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Ancient Olympic Games. The school is attended by about 350 students. These students are aged between 12-15 years old, and they have the possibility of studying natural sciences, mathematics, literature, social sciences and foreign languages. Unfortunately, the building of our school was destroyed by an intense earthquake five years ago, and we are lodged at a temporary building until the permanent one is constructed. • The school hosts a significant percentage of immigrant students, many of whom experience problems that interfere with their efforts to achieve an adequate level of education. Also, a great number of students come from low income families, and unfortunately, every day this number is being increased because of the financial problems that our country faces. Because of this, they have limited possibilities of being in relationship with students of their age from other countries. There are few ways of meeting directly. Nevertheless, they are enthusiastic regarding all the possibilities of collaboration with other age-mate students, because they really want to be able to know other countries, their cultures and languages, thus strengthening their self-esteem. • Despite these material problems, our students participate in various extracurricular activities and school competitions, where they achieve very good results. A lot of times, they shined at competitions in Mathematics, Drama (ancient Tragedy and Comedy, as modern repertoire, too), Painting and Dancing.

  6. Liceo Classico Statale "Giovanni Meli”Palermo, SicilyItaly • LiceoClassico G. Meli is a High school settled in a modern quarter in Palermo Sicily, The building is large and hosts a lot of labs and a library. The age of the students range from 13 to 18 . The role of the school in the project will be that of an active partner in the development of the theme of the project , both teachers and students are interested in giving their contribution and in widening their European dimension. The general context is that of a school in Sicily which is a region included in the objective convergence by The EU .The students of the school come from different parts of the urban area of Palermo and belong to different social contexts so social cohesion is a fundamental mission of the aforesaid Institution .

  7. Boeungdomsskole(Boe lower secondary school)Boe, Norway • Bøungdomsskole is a lower secondary school situated on an island called Karmøy. The municipality of Karmøy has a population of 40000 inhabitants. The municipality has got five lower secondary schools and one lower secondary school for pupils with problems to adapt to a normal school situation. • In our area we are near connected to the nearest town, Haugesund. The inhabitants work in offices, factories, shops and some do fishisng and farming. In the area we have high employment and a lot of people with high education. In Haugesund we have a college. We have five upper secondary schools in the area. They specialises in music, dancing, sports, different vocational training and general education for university. • We have 330 pupils, 12 classes. The pupils are from 13 to 16 years old. They stay in school for 30 lessons each week. 190 days a year. Our school think is positive to be a part of Europe by working together with other schools (teachers and pupils). We can understand each other better and be able to understand different cultures. Our pupils do a lot of different work to get to know their own country and culture as well as the culture of others. We teach English, German and Spanish as foreign languages.

  8. Srednja škola BedekovčinaBedekovčina, Croatia • Our school is vocational technical secondary school of regional scope educating pupils primarily in field of civil engineering but also in medicine and agriculture. Our pupils are from 15-18 years old and come from various social environments: from well situated families but also from very poor, with no possibilities to travel, contact young people from abroad or practice foreign languages except in school. In my region young people traditionally are not educating higher than in secondary school. Intention is to increase their knowledge of foreign languages, ICT, interest for different countries and encourage them to take part in the nowaday’s European movements in their future life. • Hope that active part in this project could also make all these things easier.

  9. Skjold skule Skjold, Norway • Our school is situated in a rural area, we have around 300 pupils from 6 to 16 years old. Some of our pupils come from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa, but the majority are local. Some of our pupils have special needs. We think that it is important to remember that our pupils have both wings and roots, by that we mean that they shall learn about their own region but also about the world around us. Improving young people's communicative skills is important in building the future. We live in a region that traditionally has been occupied with storytelling, as a way of coming through harsh days and also as a means of entertainment. Our school has no experience with Comenius, this project will expand the teachers European awareness.
