  2. Historically, the UAW has fought to organize car company labor, and moved on towards unionizing other industries. In the last few years it has lobbied for an auto bailout. • The US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) generally considers matters relating to health, education, labor, and pensions. It deals with matters such as labor standards, occupational safety, the minimum wage, and private pension plans. • The Department of Labor is responsible for occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, re-employment services, and some economic statistics.
