  8. English Only During English Time • Starting next week, the students will be encouraged to use English only. • Students will receive special “English Star Stickers” on their Go for the Green. • Parents will receive e-mails about who is an “English Star in P1-10”.

  9. How do I (the teacher) teach your child to read? • Assessment • Small groups 3 times a week • Miss Abi practices spelling and writing in small groups • Other students not in a small group are working on reading and writing in centers.

Book Log Only for books the CHILD reads! • Child reads the story to an adult at least 2 times • Adult listens to the child read, helps when child needs help sounding out a word, and talks about the story with the child (who, what, when, where, why?). You can discuss it in English or Spanish. • If a child makes a mistake, tell them the correct word and have child read the whole sentence again. • Adult signs the Book Log.

  16. How can parents help their children with homework? • Find a quiet place for the child to work… turn off the T.V • Use a table or desk. Have all the materials ready (pencil, crayons, scissors) • Have the child do the work by him/herself, but help when they really need it. Discuss the homework with your child. Have your child explain it to you • Have the child be responsible for putting homework back in the folder and in the backpack • Play learning games, like cards and “I Spy” READ TO YOUR CHILD EVERYDAY! SHOW YOUR CHILD THAT YOU READ, TOO!

  17. Go for the GREEN • Green = Great day! • Yellow = Oh-oh! I forgot the rules. Lose 5 minutes of recess. • Red = Parents and office notified. Student can move back to green from yellow. Students fill in color chart every day and bring it home on Friday. Miss Ali writes color changes in the “Uh oh Book”.

  18. Teacher Referrals • If student is consistently not following school rules, the teacher and the student fill out a teacher referral • Please discuss the referral with your child, sign and return to school the next day • 3 Teacher Referrals = Office Referral and a parent meeting with teacher and administrator • I will always e-mail you, call you or arrange a meeting if behavior is an issue…long before it becomes a “problem”!

  19. Reminders • PLEASE! Write a note or send an e-mail if child is going home with someone else or to tell a teacher ANYTHING!!! • No little brothers or sisters on playground during recess. • Please wait for child by round tables, not close to P1-10 door. Students MUST come into the classroom after activities! No hugs and kisses until AFTER school.

  20. DONATIONS:~small toys/candy for prizes~ 6-7 small plastic chairs for outside HOMEWORK: Bring a picture of your pet(s) or if you don’t have a pet, a picture of a pet your child wants (magazine / computer)
