  6. Reading • Journeys Reading Series • Reading test at the end of each week and theme • Focus on sequencing, plot, character, setting, main idea, comprehension, and vocabulary • Guided reading groups

  7. Spelling • Short Vowels, long vowels, blends, etc… • Monday pre-test • Friday post-test • Weekly practice • Challenge Words-Begin Sept. 18th • Grade appears under Language

  8. English and Writing • Sentences, nouns, verbs, adjectives • Journals, letter writing, paragraphs, and a report

  9. Math • Math Series: GO MATH • Number sense, addition, subtraction, geometry, time, fractions, measurement • Chapter tests and unit tests • Timed Tests after ch. 2

  10. Science • Physical, Earth, and Life Science • Experiments and hands on activities • STEMscopes

  11. Social Studies • Communities (school, family, world) • Land and Water • Current Events • Holidays and Celebrations

  12. Grading • Formative Assessments: *25% of final grade *class work, mid-chapter check points, etc. • Summative Assessments: *75% of final grade *chapter tests, high frequency words test, theme tests, story quizzes, etc. BY

  13. Homework • 3-4 Times Per Week • Monday-Reading Story • Tuesday-ELA Practice • Wednesday-Math Practice • Thursday-Practice Spelling Words

  14. Parent Volunteers • Centers: Tuesday-Friday • Halloween Party • Winter Party • Valentine Party • Pumpkin Carving, Gingerbread Houses, Cinco de Mayo • PLEASE RETURN VOLUNTEER SHEETTONIGHT or BY Sept. 15th.
