  4. Greek and Roman Views • The Romans adopted and changed the Greek pantheon of gods. • What does pantheon mean? • The gods worshiped by a people. It is also the name of a famous Roman temple. • This is why two different names are often associated with one god: Ares (Greek) and Mars (Roman). • The Greeks did not like Ares as much as the Romans. They felt that he possessed all the bad things in War. • The Romans were a more war like people and associated Mars with farming and cultivation of the land.
