The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging is a coalition of health care organizations dedicated to providing safe, high quality pediatric imaging. The primary objective of the Alliance is to raise awareness in the imaging community of the need to adjust radiation dose when imaging children. The ultimate goal of the Alliance is to change practice.

The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging,

Image Gently CR/DR Vendor Summit, February 2010

Yes = Pediatric Institution

No = General Institution

RT requests

  • better tools for immediate feedback on image quality & exposure
  • information about pediatric technique settings
  • user friendly vendor educational materials
  • reliable measures of radiation exposure to patients
  • follow-up by vendor representatives

“The FDA’s role goes beyond enforcement of rules that regulate manufacturers’ equipment.”

  • Funding and staff resources have been devoted to CR/DR radiation safety, particularly for pediatric imaging
  • Working on a guidance document that applies to pediatric x-ray imaging-- radiography, CT, and fluoroscopy to give manufacturers clear guidelines on the information (e.g. tests, labeling/instructions, documentation of risks and safety features) that they need to provide to FDA
