  3. Project Background A Method to the Madness! • Almost every family has a refrigerator and pantry • However there is no way to know what is in the house without physically looking • The majority of people have access to either a tablet, smart phone, or computer • The U.S. already has in place a system for maintaining data on packaged food – UPC codes • The UPC code can be read by a scanner or camera found on most smart phones

  4. Our Solution The Master Plan! • FoodCycle – A mobile application that will provide the user with a home database of their food items. They will be able to use this database to keep track of what they already own and buy, therefore allowing them to make more educated decisions when grocery shopping. • The Goal – Save you, the consumer, money and to cut back food waste.

  5. Current Build The Here and Now! • Has an inventory database • Scans a UPC code using Zebra Crossing (ZXing) API and checks a UPC database • Current UPC database is limited • Layout contains proper text and buttons relevant to current and future features. • Supported on Android phones and tablets • Android version 3.0 (HONEYCOMB) up to 4.4.2 (KITKAT)
