  1. Update of magnetic field measurements of SSS correctors at 1.9 K • W. Venturini Delsolaro AT-MTM Field Quality Working Group Meeting 3 May, 2005

  2. Outline • Transfer Functions • Hysteresis • Field quality • Program (proposal)

  3. Where we are: Update of last FQWG (16.11.04)

  4. SSS correctors: synoptic B4-SM18 Random errors and population spreads superimposed, and samples are different. 2 MO singled out… Spreads about same in B4 and SM18 Different behavior with magnet order Difference between two labs of same order as spread

  5. Hysteresis amplitudes average values; samples even smaller than for TF …

  6. Octupoles: larger hysteresis and smaller transfer functions (can’t be explained by calibration factors)

  7. Landau octupoles hysteresis

  8. Residual octupole field at 0 A Tolerance ± 7.4 10-5

  9. Field Quality • No real c/w correlations yet • Spot-checks at cold on basis of industry measurements outcomes in general confirming the w.m., examples: • b3 in MCB, MCBC • b10 in MQT, MQTL • b1 in MO

  10. High b1 in octupole modules confirmed in cold measurements

  11. Cold measurements plan (proposal) GOALS • Measure excitation curves (hysteresis) down to very low currents for MCB, MQT, MS: close to likely settings. • Study behavior for small positive and negative increments (for FB loops). • Search for setting up cycles • Measure cross talks • Establish correlations between warm and cold for TF PROBLEMS • High workload and tight resources in 2005 • MQTL integral measurements much easier in SM18 ACTIONS • Recalibration of some B4 cold shafts (under way) • Program ongoing at B4 for TF, hysteresis, setting up, and cross talks from table Cham05. MQTL, MSCB, MCBY, and MQT are in the pipeline • Pursue measurements of TF at nominal current in SM18 for all SSS with measurement shaft (total 20). Compare with warm data from industry
