  1. WRONG USE OF LAWFUL THINGS “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything” (1 Cor. 6:12).

  2. The Purpose Of Truth • To Free from sin. • To bring peace and unity. • But Satan attacks thru perverted teachers. • Not all enemies of the cross are teachers of false doctrines. • Some pervert the purpose of truth.

  3. Wresting The Scriptures • 2 Peter 3:16 • 2 Tim. 2:14; 2:15; 16-18 • There is the “letter” of the law, and the “spirit” of the law. • Matt. 19:3-9. We argue details. God’s purpose is oneness in the relationship. Anything else is not according to purpose.

  4. Satisfying Fleshly Appetites • They are given by God. • To be satisfied within bounds of His will. • Hunger and Lord’s Supper – I Cor. 11:17-22 • Sexual appetites – I Cor. 7:1-5

  5. Prayer • One of our greatest blessings – to ask the Lord’s favor in our endeavors • Matt. 6:5-8 – not to be seen of men. • James 4:2-4 – wrong motives. • It’s not meant to “get us out of a tight spot.”

  6. The Tongue • Col. 4:6; Prov. 15:23, 28 • But, James 3:2; 5:12 • Arguing, gossiping, lying, cursing, deceit, self-justification. • Such a blessing, such a burden.

  7. Zeal • We love to see enthusiasm for the Lord. • “Lukewarm” Christians aren’t Christ like. • We’re sometimes more zealous for wrong things. • Rom. 10:1-4; Phil. 3:4-7. • Don’t let Satan win. Use right things for the correct purpose.
