  1. Exposition Light Rail Phase 2 - Recommendation for Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility within the City of Santa Monica

  2. Expo: Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility • LA Metro & Expo require a Light Rail Maintenance Facility in Phase II • Verizon was the only site identified in Expo’s Draft EIR

  3. Expo: Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility • After community input, Council directed Expo & staff to explore alternative locations to avoid impacts to the residential community on Exposition Blvd. • Staff hired both real estate and design professionals to assist in this review.

  5. Expo: Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility • Maintenance functions would be located west of Stewart at 1800 Stewart Street (previously known as Richlar site) • Storage tracks and train washing would be located east of Stewart in a narrow configuration adjacent to ROW

Expo: Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility • “Split Alternative”: Meets Expo and Metro needs: Final determination would be made by Expo & PUC Boards (grade crossing at Stewart Street) • It creates a linear buffer for residents • However, it impacts college parking lot (2.35 acres) • Staff is committed to assist in finding an adequate replacement site and these efforts are underway

Expo: Alternative Siting of Maintenance Facility Next Steps • Authorize City Manager to work with Expo to further explore the alternative location • Identify options with Expo to meet any relocation needs including SMC • Explore any joint use and/or co-location of facilities • Expo • Analysis for inclusion of this option in EIR, including Additional traffic study • Design Charrette for facility • Real Estate Negotiation
