  3. Medical School Computer Cluster • Names and passwords, for any University account are for you ONLY - NOT friend/housemate/family. (Can be seen as F2P issue) • Heavily used area-Think of others. • Printing - Only coursework stuff. • Help often available - look before you ask/give up. (Help functions in programs are often quite, err, helpful…)

  4. Rules Please read the cluster rules! Summary: • No Food and Drink in the • During booked sessions that area is CLOSED- NO EXCEPTIONS! • Thought for others

  5. DO NOT! On any university computer or network Not going to give you a definitive list Be aware of what you are doing-will it cause offence? Should you be paying for it? Be aware that when other students will be given a small(ish) fine, you may be sent to F2P and/or asked to leave the course.

  6. Couple of points • Do NOT save to the desktop. The file is lost once you log out. • Documents opened from attachments are NOT saved anywhere you can access. Do a ‘Save as…’ before you start to work on an emailed attachment.

  7. Carefull!! • SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! You are more likely to recover a document that has been saved earlier • BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP! Be aware that Memory sticks are good for transporting stuff/backups etc BUT, DO NOT HAVE YOUR ONLY COPY ON A MEMORY STICK-THEY CAN, AND DO, BREAK OR GET LOST/MISLAID/STOLEN

  8. Security & Phishing 1 • You are NOT going to have won the lottery/ suddenly find rich relatives/ be able to help a widow get her millions out of the country

  9. Security & Phishing 2 • Be careful what you put on the web-who can see it? (pets names, best friend, Birthday-i.e. Facebook stuff) • Never open an email from someone you don’t know • The Service desk (or Bank etc) will NEVER ask for your password

  10. Security & Phishing 3 • Be careful of email from your bank/ building society. It might not be them. • NEVER OPEN A LINK FROM AN EMAIL TO AUTHENTIACTE TO A BANK ACCOUNT. Always log into your bank account by going to the usual home page-type it in to be sure. This applies to any account you need to keep secure.
