Agenda • Federal Student Aid’s Target State Vision • FFEL data standards initiative • Debt Recovery and Resolution (Debt Recovery) and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) initiative
Target State Vision • Federal Student Aid embarked on a major business and systems reengineering effort • As part of this effort, developed a Target State Vision (TSV) • The two initiatives presented here today support the TSV • The following slide presents a graphical depiction of the TSV
Target State Vision Debt Recovery and TPD Initiative FFEL Data Standards Initiative
Approach • Phase I - Internal Analysis with Federal Student Aid and Department of Education Business Owners • Phase II – External Analysis with the FFEL Community of Interest • Phase III – Modify/Add Data Standards through Postsecondary Education Standards Council (PESC) Change Control Board
Overview • Developed target state business processes • Defined FFEL data standards to support target state business processes • Will be implemented in incremental phases • Reengineering of NSLDS and its data exchanges • Reengineering of debt recovery processes and systems • Enhancing financial reporting for Lender and Guarantors
Next Steps • Federal Student Aid’s Enterprise Data Management team will work with the PESC change control board to modify or add the workgroup approved data elements • Establish in the XML Registry and Repository (XML R&R) a common definition for data attributes that Federal Student Aid and the FFEL Community exchange
Overview • Federal Student Aid is in the process of acquiring a single system to replace the: • Debt Management Collection System (DMCS) • TPD - Conditional Discharge Disability Tracking System (CDDTS)
Overview (cont.) • The Debt Recovery and TPD solution will eliminate deficiencies and provide robust capabilities for both internal and external stakeholders
Overview (cont.) • Federal Student Aid identified the following change drivers: • Reconcile current business demands with legacy systems • Improve the accuracy, timeliness and tracking capabilities for default and discharge loan data
Next Steps • Complete our review of all current requirements • Continue to define the requirements for the Debt Recovery and TPD Solution
