  1. What Is Modern Architecture? Modern architecture is getting more in trend and relevant nowadays. As people start to appreciate clean and simple designs more than those elaborate and well-embellished ones, more and more structures are now being built that follows the principle of modern architecture. That is, form follows function. https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2015/11/17/18/59/architecture-1048092_960_720.jpg More than just providing residents with clean and simple aesthetics, modern architecture offers elements that appeal to the taste and preferences of everyone. The design is primarily geared towards providing residents with a residential structure that best fits their lifestyle no matter how extravagant or simple it is. In this article, we will discuss more what modern architecture is, as well as its origin and history, principle, and primary characteristics. What is modern architecture?

  2. Modern architecture, also referred to as modernistic architecture, is a style of building and a type of architecture that uses innovative, modern, and current construction technologies. Modern architectural designs basically use steel, glass, and reinforced glass. This architectural movement is based upon innovative and construction technologies like the use of reinforced concrete, glass, and steel. It embraces the concept of minimalism and rejects the idea of using ornaments. It gives more emphasis to function and involves sharp, clean lines. The movement basically involves the desire and attempt to break free from the traditional, historical style of architecture and to create something that is fresh and functional. Principle of modern architecture When designing a modern architectural structure, a modern architect in Austin always observes the philosophy of functionalism, that is, form follows function. This means that every time modern residential architects design a structure they make the purpose of the building the starting point. They also give more priority to the purpose rather than the building’s aesthetics. https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2018/07/27/00/32/apartment-3564955_960_720.jpg The modern architects in Houston and Austin express themselves and their architectural designs through simplicity. Each design they create offers clear views of the structural elements, without any unnecessary design details.

  3. Their designs also give emphasis to the true texture, beauty, and natural character of the materials. Instead of covering them up with artificial ornamental materials like paints, the materials used in building modern architecture retain their natural character. Staining may be used, though, to further express and enhance the beauty of the materials like woods. Quick history of modern architecture Modern architecture emerged at the end of the 19th century and during the early stage of the 20th century but it has been around with several sub-styles since decades ago. It only became dominant right after World War II up to the 1980s. It was also during these times when the world started to see revolutions in engineering, technology, and building materials. The concept of the form should follow function started with architect Louis Sullivan. Architect Sullivan was the designer of the 1893 Chicago World Fair buildings. This has become the foundation for modern architects and modern architecture firms in Houston. The other modern architecture pioneers that modern architects in Austin look up to are Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Staatliches Bauhaus. Characteristics of modern architecture Modern architecture has continuously developed through the years especially in style and design. However, each design and style that the modern residential architects in Houston and Austin create still embrace the primary characteristics of modern architecture such as clean minimal lines, broad roof overhangs, large windows and walls of glass, open and well- defined floor plans, asymmetric designs, and the use of both traditional and modern building materials, to name a few.
