PSSA

Adequate Yearly Progress

2005

slide2

Montgomery Area School District

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires that all groups of children reach proficiency in reading & mathematics by 2014. “Adequate Yearly Progress” is the minimum level that states, school districts, and schools must achieve each year. Adequate Yearly Progress toward proficiency are addressed via performance, participation and attendance/graduation rate.

1. Performance - Reading - 54% of the Students must score in the proficient

or advanced range

Mathematics - 45% of the students must score in proficient or advanced range

2. Participation – 95% Students must participate in the assessment

3. Graduation/Attendance – 80% (Graduation) or Growth over the previous year

90% (Attendance) or Growth over previous year

For a school to meet AYP, all targets must be met or all subgroups with more than 40 students must meet or exceed the target as well as the participation rate and graduation/attendance. The number of targets may vary from school to school since subgroups with less than 40 students are not factored into AYP. For a district to make AYP, one of the age ranges (3-5, 6-8, or 9-11) must have met AYP.
