  1. MontessoriWorks The Importance of Prepared Environment

  2. What is a Prepared Environment?

  3. Montessori’s idea of the prepared environment was that everything the child came in contact with would facilitate and maximize independent learning and exploration. This calm, well-ordered environment has a lot of movement and activity. Children are free to choose and work on activities at their own pace. Here, they experience a combination of freedom and self-discipline, as guided by the environment. The “What”, “Why”, “How” and “Who” about Prepared Environments

  4. A Touch of Nature: A Must For A True Montessori Environment

  5. The Montessori prepared environment stresses order, beauty and simplicity. There is a minimum of items and clutter. Everything has a place and it is clear how to restore the environment to order. What is a Prepared Environment?

  6. Casa 1: Sensorial AreaLearning Through The Senses

  7. Every activity in the environment has a deliberate purpose that indirectly helps a child to foster independence. All the activities are positioned in progression of difficulty in task. Why is a Prepared Environment important?

  8. Casa 3: Cultural Sciences AreaHands on Learning

  9. In a Montessori Environment the class is divided in 5 areas. Every area has activities related to the skill that needs to be taught. When the area is well organized the child learns to take responsibility of his or her own learning thus makes his choice. It encourages children to take ownership of their learning. How does the Prepared Environment help a child?

  10. Casa 3:Practical LifeSense of Order

  11. The teacher or directress of the classroom is essentially responsible to set the environment such that it is geared for independent learning with self correcting tools. The child should not get intimidated with the concept of making any mistakes and hence learn by exploring. There should be a few interesting, real-life pictures at child’s-eye level, a few beautiful objects that could break easily, living plants, and pets (even small, non-poisonous reptiles and fish are fine). Who is responsible for the Prepared Environment?
