  2. Goals of this Meeting • Learn about the purpose of the Exhibition and how it fits into the PYP framework • Highlight the components of the learning process • To share the parent guidelines • To share the time frame • To ask for mentors and resources (Primary!)

  3. What we have done so far. • Exposed our students to some creative ways of expressing themselves – drama and movement activities.

  4. Introduced students to the trandisciplinary theme, “How We Express Ourselves”. .

  5. Grade 6 students came to talk to us, about their Exhibition experiences.

  6. Students have started to create the Central Idea

  7. Purpose of the Exhibition • Engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry • Demonstrate independence and responsibility • Explore multiple perspectives • Synthesize and apply their learning • Assessing student understanding • Take action as a result of their learning • Collaborative experience • Celebrate the transition of learners

  8. Trandisciplinary Theme • How We Express Ourselves • An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; and an appreciation of the aesthetic.

  9. CENTRAL IDEA Last year: People interact with each other and communicate using creative forms of expression. The students are helping us to create this year’s, Central Idea.

  10. Lines of Inquiry -Student generated 3 lines of Inquiry - Each group Creates their own Inquiry into one of the “3”

  13. Tracking the Exhibition Process • Exhibition expectations/guidelines • Notes • Exhibition Timeline • Reference documents • Independent journal reflections • Weekly electronic journal group reflections • Photographs, video • Mentor, group, and teacher meetings

  14. Role of the Parent • Understand the purpose and requirements • Support and encourage • Be informed, ask questions • Help students to access resources • Become a mentor • Encourage independence • Give feedback on the Exhibition • Celebrate with the students

Role of a Mentor • Time and commitment – meet once a week with a group • Understanding of purpose and requirements • Provide support, not do the work for the • student inquiry group • Encourage students to use a balance of primary and secondary resources • Help access information and support field trip opportunities • Empower the students to take action

  16. Community Resources Who do you know in our community that is connected to your topic? Connections outside of our community? Secondary resources in your residence?

TIME LINE February 25 – May 10th • Week 1 & 2– tuning-in activities, independent thoughts, getting into teams, inquiries into how we express ourselves. • Week 3 to 6– in like minded teams identify their “message”, brainstorm, gather materials, research, locating, selecting relevant information, recording sources, carry out experiments/interviews/etc., collect evidence • Week 6 - Action Week • Week 7 - 9– Preparation for Exhibition – Day “X”

  18. Exhibition Day Celebrate the student’s learning by attending the staging of the Exhibition on: Thursday, May 9th Parent Morning Friday, May 10th– ASB Community
