  2. Senior Design Team 3 • Adviser : Dr. Lei Ying • Research Assistant: Ming Ouyang • Team Members: • Prashanth Yanamandra • Wyatt Brenneman • Taylor McKechnie • Client: ECpE Department Iowa State University Ames, IA, 50010 USA

  3. Project Plan • To establish communication between USRPs and Sensors using Zigbee protocol (IEEE 802.15.4) at 2.4GHz broadcasting frequency • Using Star Network Topology for sensor networks • Print useful data obtained from the sensors

  4. Project Design • GNU Radio • Software to be used on the USRP • Zigbee • Open Source implementation of GNU Radio to implement Zigbee protocol (IEEE 802.15.4) • TinyOs • Operating System to be installed on the sensors to establish communication with the USRPs

  5. Project Design • Sensors • Crossbow TelOs motes • MicaZ motes • 250 kbps data rate • 2.4GHz frequency between USRPs and Sensors for communication • Both sensors use IEEE 802.15.4

  6. Project Implementation • Week 1 • Setting up group meeting times • Recapping last semester progress

  7. Project Implementation • Week 2 • Met with Adviser and the instructor to discuss the progress of the project • Obtained new directions for the project • Met with the graduate assistant to discuss project progress during the summer • Revised the earlier strategy for the 2nd semester of the project

  8. Project Implementation • Week 3 • Obtained the sensors required for the project • Started installation of new software for the USRPs and the sensors • Hydra • TinyOS ( OS for the Sensors)

  9. Project Implementation • Week 4 • Reinstalled Ubuntu 9.2 • Installed GNU Radio, Zigbee, Hydra, TinyOS

  10. Project Implementation • Week 5 • Learning TinyOS • Testing installation of software
