4over6 Update for Mesh Framework: Overview, IANA Considerations, Implementations, and Deployment Status

The I-D 4over6 Update by Yong Cui from CERNET, China, provides an overview of the 4over6 framework, covering IANA considerations, implementations, deployment, and draft status. It addresses the 4over6 framework for mesh problems, MP-BGP peering, and dual-stack backbone behavior. The text discusses the encapsulation and decapsulation process in locations such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and CERNET2, focusing on IPv4 and IPv6 access control. It explains the deployment requirements, MP-BGP data flow, and Next Hop considerations for BGP 4over6 SAFI. The document also outlines the 4over6 OAM, RT control, BGP-MP extensions, and VIF aspects, emphasizing the deployment on CERNET2 along with the need for inter-operation for large-scale deployment. Considerations for advancing this draft to RFC are discussed, highlighting implementations, deployments, and the assignment of BGP 4over6 SAFI by IANA and CCSA.

  8. 4over6 Draft status • -00 • Submitted on Feb 22nd, 2006, expired now • -01 • Submitted on Sep 9th, 2006 • Add two new sections • 4over6 deployment on CERNET2 • Consideration of extension to IPv6 over IPv4 • Revise the Update Message format • Remove SNPA-related fields in MP_REACH_NLRI attribute • according to [I-D.ietf-idr-rfc2858bis]

  9. Requirement • We got the consensus on advancing 4over6 in Montreal IETF meeting • Many thanks to softwire WG • Implementations and deployment • 4over6 has already been implemented • Deployed in CERNET2 and other CNGI backbones • Need inter-operation in the coming large-scale deployment • China Communication Standardization Association (CCSA) • IANA also assign the BGP 4over6 SAFI = 67 • It is time to advance this draft to RFC
