Achievements • During the first two years of implementation of the MESA programme following achievements were realised: • Strengthening the already existing AMESD thematic networks with a renewed funding and expansion of partners • Adding two Implementation Centres namely University of Ghana and ACMAD with their respective THEMAs, respectively on ECOWAS's marine THEMA and Climate change • Planning and execution of a comprehensive training that should fill capacity gaps in dealing in Earth Observation and how to communicate its findings to policy makers. 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone

  4. Overall Objectives • The overall objective of the FIRST MESA Forum is to promote streamlining MESA products and services towards the decision making cyclein support to environmental management. 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone

  5. Specific Objectives 1.To present the state of technology in Earth Observation in view of how MESA and eventually GMES can access data. Technological challenges will also be presented and debated. [ Result 1] 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone

Specific Objectives • 2.To present the current the status of the implementation of the programme (including Themas), with emphasis on showcasing service and Product deliveries: • Each THEMA will be expected to illustrate how products and service are developed and disseminated • Demonstrating the operation of national networks and how MESA plays a part in the decision making and policy development frameworks via success stories possibly be shared/exhibited • [Result 2] 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone

  7. Specific Objectives 3. Discuss and make an analysis on how MESA can feed and benefit the overall continental policy making as far as environmental governance (with its facets on Environmental Treaties and Conventions) and environmental monitoring is concerned. The role to be played by the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) on this will be critical. [Result 4] 4. Discuss on MESA training component and how to achieve durable results in capacity development within the objectives of MESA. [Result 5] 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone

  8. Specific Objectives • 5. Discuss and agree a strategy and consequent action plan for the integration of MESAservices and products in the decision making cycle. This will deal with the issue of communication to policy makers in its optimal formats, time and channel. • 6. Look at the future discussion on the GMES program which will proceed and build on the MESA program: lesson learnt and challenges ahead likely to be inherited from MESA will be discussed. 8-9 July 2015, Gaborone
