  3. Prime Numbers • Counting numbers greater than 1 that have exactly two counting number factors: the number itself and 1.

  4. Composite Numbers • Counting numbers with more than two factors.

  5. Prime Factorization • Writing the number as a product of prime numbers. • Use a factor tree or division to prime factorize a number. • 36 • 45

  6. Tests of Divisibility • One way to test if a number is prime or composite is to determine if it is divisible (can be divided) by a counting number other than 1 or itself.

  7. Practice • Determine whether the numbers are prime or composite. • 526 • 305 • 123 • 1,237,526

  8. Practice • Use a factor tree to factorize these numbers: • 36 • 45 • 20 • 200

  9. Practice • Use division to factorize these numbers: • 16 • 40 • 50
