  2. What is being modified? • The tomato will be modified to include a large amount of iron. • The tomato will be modified to include more vitamin C. • Solanine will be removed from the tomato.

  3. Why add Iron? • Anemia is America’s most common blood disease. Anemia is an iron deficiency. By adding more iron to a common food like tomatoes people can easily get the iron they need.

  4. Why add Vitamin C? • Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron. By having both iron and vitamin C you can get the most out of the added iron in one meal.

  5. Why remove Solanine? • Solanine is found in tomato roots, tubes, fruit and leaves. It has been know to cause increased arthritis pain and heart disease.

  6. How is Iron and Vitamin C Going to be Added? • The tomato will be gene spliced with lentils and bell peppers. Lentils have large amounts of iron and bell peppers are a good source of vitamin C.

  7. How is Solanine Going to be Removed? • Solanine is found on chromosomes seven and twelve. The affected chromosomes will be removed through chromosomal DNA extraction. Which is a complicated process used to remove certain chromosomes.

  8. Impacts on society! • Adding iron and vitamin C will lower the number of people suffering from anemia. • By removing Solanine, people with arthritis can enjoy tomatoes without risk of increased pain. Furthermore, tomatoes will no longer put people at risk for heart disease.
