ERQ Practice • Evaluate two models or theories of one cognitive process with reference to research studies • Organizer • Pair up with a classmate to discuss how you would approach this ERQ • Write topic sentences for each paragraph you would write to respond to the question • Atkinson and Shiffrin’s memory model vs. Baddeley and Hitch’s working memory model

  9. Exploding the self-esteem myth • Pre-reading questions: • Have you ever been praised for doing something? • What was the “something” you did? Do you remember who praised you? What did they say or do? • Did you ever feel that you didn’t really deserve the praise? Why? • Why do you suppose people give praise for small accomplishments? • Is there anything wrong with giving a lot of praise for a small accomplishment? • What about the accomplishments you just listed? Do all of these deserve praise? • If parents or teachers give a large amount of praise for a small accomplishment, how do you think they would praise a big accomplishment, such as the ones you listed?
