  2. What is CHOP? • A food analysis tool that assigns a rank to a food, based on nutrient content provided by the Nutrition Facts Label total fat sodium fiber protein cholesterol saturated fat

  3. CHOP Rankings will… • Assist partner agencies by providing information on nutritional content of the food items we have available here at the CAFB

  5. RANKINGS Foods are ranked • 1, 2, 3, MC (minimal contribution), or NR (Non-Ranked) • 1 being the highest nutritional rating a food can receive • NR – products without nutritional label, salvage Ranked 1 automatically: • Water, Peanut Butter, Eggs, All special needs foods

  6. Items to be ranked are assigned to one of the following 12 categories Grains & Pastas Snacks & Desserts Cereal Vegetables Fruit Beverages Dairy & Milk Products Vegetable Proteins Animal Proteins Meals Special Needs Minimum Contribution Ranking Food Products

  7. What nutrients on the food label is CHOP using for analysis? • Vitamin A • Vitamin C • Iron • Calcium • Folate • Fiber • Saturated Fat & Cholesterol • Sodium • Protein • Sugar • Trans Fat

  9. USE THE “FOOD RATING”.. ON THE FOOD BANK SHOPPING LIST TO: Compare food WITHIN categories: • For example: Compare snacks with other snacks, beverages with other beverages, etc.

  11. What are the Benefits of CHOP? • Allows us to bring in and offer more nutritious foods to our partner agencies 2. Food distribution is analyzed each month to measure progress towards strategic nutrition goals for food distributed by the Food Bank August 2009 67% ranked 1 21% ranked 2 12% ranked 3 0% MC

  12. What are the Benefits of CHOP? 3. Nutritionists can use agency order history, which includes food ranks, to determine the amount of nutritious food ordered.
