Who attacked the Bastille and for what reasons? • The people of France got news that an army of 30,000 soldiers stood ready to descend on Paris. • Encouraged by Desmoulins and Danton, the next day they all stormed the Bastille. • They stormed it because they wanted weapons to protect the National Assembly

  3. What happened during the storming. What happened as a result ? • During the storming of the Bastille, Ninety-eight civilians died in the fight. • They didn’t stop and overran the Bastille shortly after. • They took Launay out of the Bastille and cut his head off. • The capture of the Bastille showed the weakness of Louis XVI. Many important advisers fled.

  4. What did this action symbolize to the people of France? • The Bastille was a powerful symbol. • The king had power to send prisoners to the Bastille, where they were held in secret and without trial. • On July 14, Bastille day is celebrated each year with fireworks and military parades.
