  2. The Flag of The Philippines • There are four colors on the flag. They are blue, red ,yellow, and white. • In the white part, a yellow Sun surrounded with three small stars is displayed.

  3. Government & Politics • Unitary presidential constitutional (republic) • Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is president and Noli De Castro is vice president. • The country gained its in dependence from the United States on July 4,1946. • Independence from Spain (16th century ) in 1896.

  4. Something Interesting There are many islands totaling 7107 islands in the western Pacific Ocean. The population is about 90 million. The Philippines is the world’s 12th most populous country. It has special traditional food and many different kinds of food.

Political History • In 1972, Martial Law was declared by Ferdinand Marcos, which led to the insurgencies of the New People’s Army and the Moro National Liberation Front. • Ninoy Aquino’s assassination would soon inspire his widow-Corazen Aquino and Cardinal Sin to lead the people Power Revolution of 1986, which would bring the country back to democracy.

  9. Literacy • 92.6% of the population, age 15 and over can read and write. • Male: 92.5% • Female: 92.7%
