  4. Construction • Used France’s unfinished canal to start • Locks built to go over mountains • 51 miles long • $375 million + $300 million of French

  5. Issues With Construction • Had to help a rebellion in Columbia -Should the US be creating revolutions so that we can benefit? • Malaria and Yellow Fever spread by mosquitoes • 27,500 lives lost • $352,000,000 ($6.9 billion in today’s money)
