  2. Presentation Objectives Overview current dropout/graduation rates in Washington State. Describe current policy efforts underway at the state level. Introduce Graduation: A Team Effort (GATE)…Washington’s collective impact graduation initiative. Strengthen the professional network working on dropout issues in Washington State.

  3. State Policy Efforts • House Bill 1573: Building Bridges (2007-09) • Senate Bill 1418: Reengagement System (2009-10) • House Bill 1599: PASS Act (2010-12)

  4. The Future: Collective Impact • A core group of leaders decide to abandon their individual agendas in favor of a collective approach to improving student achievement.”

  10. Dropout Prevention, Intervention and Reengagement Inventory A resource for peer sharing of effective strategies, programs, models, and partnerships that engage students, support academic and social/emotional needs, and create educational momentum for secondary and post-secondary success.

  11. Technical Assistance Workgroup Tasks • Collect and organize research and/or results supporting comprehensive dropout prevention, intervention, and retrieval (dpir) models and strategies. • Develop an OSPI based website (linked to partner websites) to host effective dropout program information for use by pre-K-12 education staff and other stakeholders. • Consult with other GATE workgroups to develop a school self-audit process/tool for use in identifying and analyzing dropout programming needs, as well as matching cross-system efforts to research-supported dpir strategies/programs. • Collaborate with other GATE workgroups and allied agency partners to design and implement a professional development model, including outreach and support to work with all districts/schools and communities in addressing local dropout prevention, intervention, and retrieval efforts.
