  3. Love, Love, Love 1 John 4:7-12

  4. 1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

  5. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

  6. 1 John 4:9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

  7. 1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

  8. 1 John 4:11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

  9. 1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

  10. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:9-10

  11. For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church. 1 Corinthians 4:17

  12. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25

  13. Love, Love, Love • The Charge of Love • The Creator of Love • The Crown of Love

  14. Love, Love, Love • The Charge of Love

  15. 1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

  16. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:34-35

  17. As I have loved you.

  18. Example is always a strong motivation for doing the right thing in life.

  19. 1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

  20. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

  21. Often, “loving one another” could be a translation of philos or phileô, but here John uses the stronger word agapaô from which we get the noun agapê. Morris M. Womack

  22. Love, Love, Love • The Charge of Love • The Creator of Love

  23. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

  24. “I never knew you.” Matthew 7:23

  25. This love that God is encompasses intelligence, intention, comprehension, and understanding, because to love in the manner that God is (that is, agapê) is not necessarily a love of passion, but a love of intention. Morris M. Womack

  26. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

  27. You can never be a preacher if you read it as though God were a policeman. Read it as though God were a brokenhearted Father looking for a lost child!

  28. Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them. Luke 15:11-12

  29. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. Luke 15:13

  30. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. Luke 15:14-15

  31. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! Luke 15:16-17

  32. I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ Luke 15:18-19

  33. So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20

  34. But there will be a difference in my love. When you are good, I will love you with a love that makes me glad; and when you are not good I will love you with a love that hurts me. Mark Guy Pearse

  35. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

  36. Love, Love, Love • The Charge of Love • The Creator of Love • The Crown of Love

  37. 1 John 4:9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

  38. 1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

  39. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31

  40. There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Romans 3:10-12

  41. Never be afraid of God, unless you are sinning against Him. F.B. Meyer

  42. Always believe that behind what seems difficult and mysterious, there is God’s heart, as true and tender as the heart of the sweetest, gentlest woman that ever pressed her child to her bosom. F.B. Meyer

  43. Nay, all the love in all women’s hearts together, compared to the love of His heart, is as a glowworm’s torch compared to the sun at noon-tide. God’s love is the greatest, the supreme love. F.B. Meyer

  44. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

  45. Only when a person has had to give up a son (or daughter) through death can we even approximate the greatness of the gift God gave. Morris M. Womack

  46. When we magnify the pain by recognizing the extent of the pain and humiliation that Jesus, God’s Son, experienced… Morris M. Womack

  47. and realize what a worthless people we humans were for God to sacrifice his Son for us, we can begin to realize something of the greatness of the sacrifice of God. Morris M. Womack

  48. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isaiah 53:3

  49. 1 John 4:11-12 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

  50. Since God loves, so should we love.
