  2. Green Screen,Interactive Tax(an artificial performance barrier) 1. System slow , inadequate, users complain of slow response times –Traditional solution  Buy additional interactive from HW supplier or IBM ( what is the cost of the interactive card/feature ?) E.g. 170 and 270 models showing total CPW Vs Interactive CPW per model • 2. + Cost of Software subscription /maintenance (DB2, OS400, Compiler etc..) • this can be higher than the cost of interactive card/feature. E.g. in the example above, 170-2176 is a P10 but a 170-2183 is a P20 (the only difference being the amount of interactive)

  3. maximum interactive • M400A (V4R4+ ) in 200+ customer sites • M400B (V4R1 – V4R3) (Unique to MAX400 – no one else does this) • Software download - less than 50K zipped. • FTP and restore on AS400 (5 minutes) • Get trial license code from max400. • Run/Test (see FAQ section of website)

  4. How do I verify that max400 works? • The customer is perhaps experiencing system slowdown already due to interactive limit being reached. Operating max400 on that system will bring immediate relief. • Alternatively they can verify max400 working by completing the following test described at : http://www.max400.net/faqs2.htm Example of how this test would work on say a 170-2291 model which has 25 Interactive CPW , out of a total of 115 CPW. Here the interactive CPW is approximately around 22% of total machine capability. (SEE FOLLOWING SLIDES, example of screens 1-4) • When you start the 2 CL programs in a ‘loop’ as described , initially the 2 jobs will consume around 50% of CPU. • Then CFINT will ‘commence’, slow the CL jobs down and reduce CPW usage of these jobs to around 22% , which is the ‘limit’ of that machine. • Now, starting max400 will increase the CPU to around 50% each on these 2 jobs.

  5. Example of max400 working (Part 1 of 4) This shows the system-wide CPU usage when no jobs are running.

  6. Example of max400 working (Part 2 of 4) The looping CL program is then called from two sessions. They each receive about 50% of CPU.

  7. Example of max400 working (Part 3 of 4) After some time, CFINT01 becomes active and slows the interactive sessions down. In this case they each get about 10% and CFINT01 takes about 80% of CPU.

  8. Example of max400 working (Part 4 of 4) Now MAX400 is started and the jobs return to receiving the full amount of CPU available.
