  1. Dry Fasting vs. Water Fasting

  2. A lot of people are rediscovering the benefits of fasting and exploring the different ways of fasting. Some of the common fasting terms we hear today include intermittent fasting, alternate day fasting, or dry fasting. While dry fasting was as popular before, the recent trends among a few are offering newer insights on how long a human can go without drinking water.

  3. Let’s understand the two fasting types:

  4. Dry Fasting Dry fasting is when you completely abstain from food and water. Most often, it is recommended that you talk with your doctor first before deciding on fasting. This is because while it is said that dry fasting has a wide range of benefits, from weight loss to improve mental health, you cannot deny that it can also be risky. Our bodies can become dehydrated quickly, and without water, this may further escalate the situation, which can cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Also, there is no scientific evidence that dry fasting is good for your health.

  5. Water Fasting Water fasting is where you abstain from food, but you drink water for a set period of time. This set period is often around 24-72 hours, but depending on the people, it can be longer. Water fasting is said to have its own benefits - weight loss or reduced inflammation. Again, like dry fasting, there is no scientific evidence to back this claim. Before starting water fasting, too, you should talk to your doctor as it might have an impact on your health.

  6. Benefits Of Dry Fasting Vs. Water Fasting

  7. Weight loss If you want to lose weight, then dry fasting might be more effective for you. It might confuse you because what contribution does water, a non-caloric drink, have to weight gain? Without endogenous water in your body, your body is looking for internal reserves. Since fat cells are 90% made of water, your body starts consuming fat cells, making you lose weight.

  8. Immune system Fasting is often associated with building or strengthening immunity. It is based on a simple theory that fasting and not giving anything to your body will restore or reset the immune system by removing dead cells. This is followed by the body producing new cells. While there is no scientific evidence regarding the same, immune benefits are seen in most cases if fasting is done for a considerable period of time.

  9. Spiritual: dry vs. water fast Fasting is seen in various religions - the most common being fasting during eid. A lot of people believe that fasting can have spiritual benefits, which may include increased faith or awareness. A lot of people who have experience in fasting have reported religious benefits. But when doing this for spirituality, it is important to note that dry fasting is an aggressive approach compared to water fasting, which is milder.

  10. Conclusion Are you new to fasting? Note that randomly started fasting because your friends or family are doing it is not recommended. Even if you want to experiment, it is important to know your health inside out, and preferably consult your doctor before this.SOURCE CREDIT: https://dryfastingclub.blogspot.com/2022/10/dry-fasting-vs-water-fasting.html
