  1. Surgical Treatment of Uterine Fibroids by Laparotomy

  2. What Are Uterine Fibroids? Benign tumors which consist of smooth muscles developing inside the uterine wall are known as uterine fibroids or leiomyoma.

  3. What are the symptoms of this ailment? Symptoms of uterine fibroids include: 1. Heavy menstrual bleeding 2. Pelvic pressure and/or pain 3. Constipation

  4. 4. Frequent urination 5. Difficulty in emptying your bladder 6. Backache or leg pains 7. Prolonged menstrual periods- seven days or more of menstrual bleeding

  5. What is myomectomy? Myomectomy or fibroidectomy is an advanced surgical procedure used to remove uterine fibroids. Unlike hysterectomy, in this method the uterus remains intact so that female reproductive capacity is not ruined.

  6. When Does A Person Needs Myomectomy? The presence of fibroids does not mean that it needs removal. However, a surgery for removing becomes essential when patient suffers from severe pain or abnormal bleeding or if the fibroids interfere with reproduction.

  7. How is Myomectomy Performed? Myomectomy can be performed in a number of ways based on the location and the number of tumors. laparotomy is one of the methods used for myomectomy. This surgery is performed under general anesthesia by an experienced surgeon.

  8. How is Laparotomy Performed? • Laparotomy is performed under general anesthesia.

  9. The surgeon makes a single cut through the skin and muscle of the abdomen, so that the underlying tumors can be viewed vividly.

  10. The uterus is pulled out so that the fibroids present inside can be removed.

  11. Uterine fibroids are removed by using a surgical device known as myomectomy screw.

  12. After this removal, the surgeon acts to repair the uterus so that it heals well and regains its capacity. Often it is closed in two or more layers so that it can withstand the pressures of future childbearing.

  13. Once the surgeon is done with the repairing process, the uterus is closed in layers.

  14. Laparotomy is the most ideal option in case of a large number of fibroids.

  15. The fibroids are on the display that have been removed. It helps understand the appreciation of scale.
