  2. URINE TEST OVERVIEW URINE TEST OVERVIEW The urine test checks and analyzes the different components of a urine. The urine is a waste product excreted by the kidneys. The usual urine test may be done to help find the cause of symptoms that a person might have. The result of the test can give information regarding your health and possible problems your body may have. Let’s look at the science on what the urine contains. The kidneys excrete waste material, minerals, fluids, and other elements from the blood to be sent in to the urine. Urine has hundreds of different chemical wastes. What food we consume, beverage we drink, how much we workout, and how well our kidneys work can affect what our urine can contain.

These are the few common test done on a urine: • Color – There are a lot of factors that affect our urine color, some include fluid balance, nutrition, medication, and ailments. The darkness or lightness of the urine color ca tell you how much water is in it. Vitamin B supplements can turn urine color into bright yellow. Some drug, blackberries, beets, rhubarb, or blood in the urine can turn the urine color to red-brown. • Clarity – by default urine is clear, however, because of Bacteria, blood, sperm, crystals, or mucus the urine may look cloudy.

A urine pH measurement of 4 is strongly acidic, the number 7 means neutral, and 9 is strongly alkaline. At times the pH of urine is affected by certain behaviors. • Ketones – When body fat stores are metabolically broken down for energy, the body creates substances called ketones. These are passed in the urine. Large amounts of ketone quantity in the urine may mean a very serious illness. Low carbohydrate diets can cause inhabitance of ketones in the urine.
