  2. Defining the Problem • The community college transfer student who seeks the bachelor’s degree but fails, negatively affects many: • Self • Family • Community College & University Attended • American Economy • Global Economies Princess de Leon

  3. Explaining the Goal • What would cause the community college transfer student to fail? • This student has already proven s/he can do college-level work! • We brainstormed for these possible variables. • We decided upon 7 variables/hypotheses and formed 7 research teams. J.P. Mallari

Can’t Decide on Major/Loss of Focus: Progress assessment program which keeps track of student’s classes Better counseling and guidance Students involved with clubs Transfer counselor partnered with students. Overwhelmed by University Life/Excessive Destructive Behavior: Web-based Training for resident advisors, Psychological Treatment, Family Therapy, Orientations, Alcohol Prevention Programs, Be wary of Fraternity and Sorority Houses Solutions… Adrian Dalmacio

Tuition is too Expensive: Colleges must improve transfer and retention rates Lower the cost of college Research between academic, institutional, and state-level researchers should be promoted, Parents invest early in educational funds Parents should take advantage of federally subsidized loans Not Being Able to Manage Responsibilities: Have a clear purpose, plan and prioritize, Avoid interruptions and distractions, Be organized, More Work Study programs, Social Activities must be geared toward academic engagement, Colleges must teach students how student behavior influences academic performance. Solutions… • Health Problems: • Increase daily activities (sports & school clubs), • More campus control of dorms, partying, drinking, unsafe sex, and drug/alcohol abuse, • Control of freedom, • Seek help from counselors to learn how to live a positive lifestyle, • Teach self-confidence as that leads to good problem-solving Value health, Practice your religion, Optimistic outlook.
